My New Favorite 20-Minute Beef Rice Bowl (Better Than Takeout!)
Hey lovelies! 🥑🍚
I was craving something quick, flavorful, and satisfying this week without ordering takeout again. I came across this super simple ground beef bowl recipe on Reddit and it sounded perfect for a busy weeknight. I tried it last night and wow it’s going straight into my regular dinner rotation.
It has that sweet-savory garlic-soy vibe (kind of like a simplified Korean bulgogi bowl) and the toppings take it to another level. My husband kept saying “this is restaurant quality” which is the highest praise he gives.
How I Made It
I loved how fast everything came together. While the rice cooked, I whipped up the sauce and browned the beef. The fried egg on top with a runny yolk was the best part it makes the whole bowl creamy and rich when you break it.
I added half an avocado because I had one ripe and it balanced the flavors perfectly. The rice vinegar on the rice was a nice touch too!
The Recipe (My Version)
Quick & Easy Ground Beef Rice Bowls
Ingredients (Serves 2-3)
1 lb ground beef
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 tsp sesame oil
1/4 cup brown sugar
Cooked rice (I used a rice cooker)
Rice vinegar (a splash for the rice)
Fried eggs (one per bowl)
Chopped green onions
Half an avocado, sliced
Optional seasonings for egg: garlic powder + onion powder
Directions
- Mix together the soy sauce, chopped garlic, sesame oil, and brown sugar in a small bowl. Set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it’s almost fully browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Pour the sauce over the beef, stir well, and continue cooking until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the meat (about 3-5 minutes).
- Meanwhile, cook your rice. Once done, stir in a small splash of rice vinegar for brightness.
- Fry an egg sunny-side up or over easy. Season the top lightly with garlic powder and onion powder.
- Assemble the bowls: Start with rice, top with the saucy beef, fried egg, sliced avocado, and plenty of chopped green onions.
Final Verdict
This dish is ridiculously good for how easy it is. Sweet, savory, a little umami punch from the soy and sesame. The runny egg yolk + avocado makes it feel fancy. It’s also super customizable you could add kimchi, cucumber, or gochujang if you want more heat.
I’m already planning to make it again next week. Perfect for when you want something comforting but don’t want to spend forever in the kitchen.
